Saberaʼs Magic Shop is a colourful hand illustrated story book for 3-7 year olds.

It tells a heartwarming story about migration, community, and the transformative power of kindness.

When Sabera, a young woman from a faraway country, moves to England with her husband Ali, she feels lonely. Together, they open a quirky general store and Sabera finds a way to connect with her new neighbours through a unique brand of “magic.” Whenever a customer faces a problem—whether it is Mrs Crumbleʼs broken torch, young Havantiʼs longing for Diwali in the summer, or Mr Brisketʼs stressful family trip to the seaside—Sabera is there to help.

With a cry of “Abracadabra,” she provides exactly what they need, from fresh batteries and  fireworks to a perfectly packed picnic, earning her store the reputation of a “Magic Shop”

The story reaches its climax when a fire breaks out in the shopʼs fridge during the night.  In a touching reversal of roles, the neighbours Sabera has helped, rush to her aid.   Sabera realises that she has built a true home and is no longer lonely.

Sabera’s Magic Shop is based on the real Sabera Abbas who ran Egerton Road South shop and post office with her husband Ali for over 20 years.

Illustrated by Chorlton-based artist Susanna Vosper and words by author Felicity Skelton who is also based in the North, this book celebrates ‘every day’ people who create a special bond with the community.
