Alex Williams: You Saw Me Standing Alone

posted in: books, events | 0

We’re thrilled that City legend Alex Williams MBE is coming to see us in Chorlton!

After his goalkeeping career was cut cruelly short by injury in 1987, Alex went on to become Community Ambassador for the club, helping thousands of young people find their feet and their voices through the City in the Community charity.

Now retired after 33 years of service, he’s published his much-anticipated autobiography – You Saw Me Standing Alone.  Alex will talk about the book, his career and the power of football as a transformative force for good.

The book’s evocative title, is taken from the famous Blue Moon City anthem, but also describes a lonely battle against racists who targeted one of the game’s first modern-day black goalkeepers.

“Being a Moss Side boy, it was a dream come true for me to represent the club I supported all my life. I am proud to now share that story. A large part of this includes the development of City in the Community. We should all, as City fans and staff, be very proud of what the club has achieved locally and globally in changing the lives of hundreds and thousands of people, for the better.”

Tickets are £5, and give you £5 off the cover price of You Saw Me Standing Alone, which will be on sale at the event. (£10, normal cover price £15).
