Jackie Kay at the Lowry

We’re absolutely delighted to have been invited to be the bookseller for this very special event. Professor Jackie Kay is giving a lecture at the Lowry as part of the Sociological Review Foundation’s Conference – Undisciplining II.

A greatly admired poet and scholar (and one of our favourite customers!), Glasgow-born Jackie’s eyes were opened by sociology. She has served as both Scotland’s national poet and Chancellor of the University of Salford, a part of Greater Manchester that she loves for its musicality and working-class history.

In this lecture, she will draw on the much-loved ghosts, icons and inspirations of her latest collection, May Day, to explore themes of politics, love and loss.

Read an exclusive interview with Jackie here.

Although this lecture is part of the wider, conference, it’s open to the public, with tickets priced at £10. Come and see Jackie (and us!) at the Lowry, 6.30pm on Wednesday 10 September 2024.

Grab your ticket (just choose the £10 option for the lecture – unless you want to attend the whole conference, of course) and we’ll see you there! We’ll have copies of Mayday and other titles available.
